16th Century Alcove

Cracks in a bricked-in doorway revealed an ancient wooden lintel sagging under the weight of stone, cob and rubble, which I quickly removed. I stabilised and strengthened the lintel, which became a feature, and refilled the space above using the original stone and a lime mortar mix. I also exposed other beams, stripping one of its many layers of black paint.
